What We Believe.

History – the Methodist movement began in the 18th century in England, led by John & Charles Wesley.  Followers focused much of their ministry on the poor and disenfranchised, bringing a message of hope to common people during difficult economic and political conditions.

Beliefs

  • The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
  • Christian Life is an ongoing, dynamic pilgrimage of holy living, moving toward becoming perfect in love.
  • We place extreme importance of grace, defined as the undeserved, unmerited, and loving action of God in human existence through the Holy Spirit.
  • The foundational document of the church is the Holy Bible.
  • The Book of Discipline is the guiding statements of belief, position on social issues, church law, and more.
  • We use the Wesleyan Quadrilateral to guide our thinking, which places emphasis on Scripture, Reason, Experience, and Tradition. The most emphasis is on Scripture.
  • We celebrate two holy Sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion.
  • We believe that we are to be connectional throughout the world.
